Hi, I’m Louisa, the owner of Beautiful Beginnings
I’ve been a medical sonographer for over 20 years, and in that time I lost count of how often expectant parents would ask “Can you tell me the gender?” or “Can I see my baby in 3D?” In a medical setting, the focus is always on measurements and detecting abnormalities. While that’s obviously important work, it leaves very little room for the moments families really want – the joy, the bonding and the chance to see baby just being baby.
Time constraints, and often the technology available, meant that 3D scans were rarely offered, and when they were, they were never a priority. What was missing was the emotional side of ultrasound – the smiles, the tears and the connection.
After having my own two children, I experienced first hand the psychological benefits of seeing your baby more often: the reassurance, the joy, and the bond it creates not just for mums, but for dads and the wider family too. Those check-ins made such a difference to my own journey, and I knew parents deserved a space dedicated entirely to that experience.
That’s why I created Beautiful Beginnings in 2018 – Perth’s longest running, non-clinical, nurturing studio where families can take the time to enjoy one of life’s most important chapters. Here, we go beyond the medical – no rushed appointments, no cold rooms, no jargon. just warmth, care, excitement, where moments become memories.

Whether you’re wondering about timing, preparation, referrals, or what happens on the day, we’re here to make everything feel simple, clear and reassuring. We offer both diagnostic and non-diagnostic scans!
No- our scans are non-diagnostic. That means we’re not performing medical checks, taking measurements or looking for abnormalities. Our purpose is to give you a beautiful bonding experience with your baby in a relaxed, family-friendly setting. We’ll show you your baby in 2D/3D/4D/5D, capture keepsake images, and celebrate the moment, but we don’t provide medical opinions or reports. Our scans do not replace your routine medical ultrasounds, so please continue all recommended appointments with your doctor or midwife.
No referral needed! Because this is a social keepsake experience, you can book whenever you’re ready. If you have a clinical question or concerns, your care provider is the best person to speak to. Our role is memories and connection, not diagnosis.
Between 26-34 weeks is usually the sweet spot. By then, baby has a little facial fat (hello cheeks!) but still has enough room to move for lovely angles. 28-30 weeks often gives the best balance. Earlier views (between 14-25 weeks) are great for cute profiles, and later views (between 35-40 weeks) can still be gorgeous, but space is tighter and baby’s position matters more.
Hydrate well in the days leading up to your appointment. While we don’t need you to hold your bladder during your session, being well hydrated does improve image quality. Having a light snack 20-30 minutes can encourage baby’s movement and activity. Wearing something comfortable and loose can also help your ultrasound tech so we’re not fighting with tight clothing. Please have your online consent form completed prior to your appointment to avoid chewing up your session time.
